EFA pledges its commitment to a Europe united for peace

At the EFA General Assembly in Gandia, the representatives of the European political party signed a manifesto reaffirming our vision for a Europe that is sovereign, democratic and rooted in its peoples and territories

The European Free Alliance strives for a Europe that is sovereign, democratic, and rooted in its peoples and territories. A Europe that takes control of its own future, that stands up for peace and human rights, and that is driven from the ground-up, uniting its diversity through cohesion and cooperation. This is the conclusion of the EFA General Assembly 2026, which was held in Gandia (Valencian Country) on June 5 and 6. The annual meeting of the organization culminated with the representatives of each member party signing the Gandia declaration calling for “Sovereign Peoples in a Sovereign Europe”.

For the European party for self-determination, a “sovereign Europe” also means “strengthening our resilience” and “ending Europe’s dependence on external actors in strategic fields that weaken our autonomy and capacity”. At the same time, for EFA, this transformation has to be driven from the ground-up. Territories, regions and the diversity of Peoples need to be recognised as the true engines of Europe.

Hundreds defy the rain

More than 200 people defied the rain and poor meteorological conditions and joined EFA during the open political event “United for Peace”, held in a public square in the centre of Gandia. The peoples of Europe proved, one more time, that we stand strong in defense of our values. The event counted on the participation of several political leaders from different European nations such as EFA MEPs Diana Riba (Catalonia), Vicent Marzà (Valencian Country) and Ana Miranda (Galiza), Carmen Ria Smith (Wales), Lynn Boylan (Ireland), Mario Zubiaga (Basque Country), Joan Baldoví (Valencian Country), and EFA President Lorena López de Lacalle (Basque Country).

The EFA General Assembly 2026 also included a diversity of political conferences, roundtables and debates. Some of the topics that were tackled included the geopolitical challenges and democratic backsliding, the need for an EU democratic reform, or the combat against the far-right. From the European Free Alliance, we want to thank all the participants, as well as all the academics, experts and other political partners that joined us in such an enriching journey. See you all soon, fighting together for self-determination in a democratic and sovereign Europe.
