As Plaid Cymru’s international partners, we look forward to a Welsh Government led by Rhun Ap Iorwerth and building ties with the EU
This week, the European Free Alliance welcomed the leader of Plaid Cymru, Rhun ap Iorwerth, to Brussels. It is an exciting time for Wales’ future. Currently, Rhun ap Iorwerth is leading the polls to become the next Prime Minister of Wales in the upcoming Senedd elections in May, which would be a significant step for Wales to rebuild strong ties with Europe in the face of Global instability.
In fact, this visit is part of Plaid Cymru’s effort to strengthen the Wales-EU relationship. “This visit is about ensuring Wales is once more actively engaged with European partners, building relationships that support trade, investment, and long-term economic stability. Strong European ties also create opportunities for collaboration in education, culture, and security, reinforcing Wales’ place on the international stage”, he said.
Even after Brexit entered into force, Plaid Cymru remained actively engaged in EFA. For the European Free Alliance, it is important to keep working together with Wales, as we believe in our common future in the EU. This week, EFA President Lorena López de Lacalle and EFA Secretary General Oriol Cases joined Rhun ap Iorwerth in his visit, joining efforts to strengthen the Wales-EU relationship.
“Together, we turn hope into action. EFA remains a platform where Plaid Cymru can thrive, and we are here to support every step of the journey”, said EFA President Lorena López de Lacalle. “Plaid Cymru leading the Welsh Government would be a turning point in the fight against the far right and for greater devolution in Europe”, added EFA Secretary General, Oriol Cases.
