Optimising performance under changing conditions
Over time we have come to define ourselves as the EFA family. As with any family, we started out as a small group and grew until we reached the level of maturity we possess today as we mark our 45th anniversary.
We are in our prime, in our forties, experiencing those sweet moments when we are known and recognised. It is a time when our approach to politics, accessible, open, and pluralistic, places us at the forefront of those championing a Europe built with everyone and for everyone; a time when our consistency and political activity are bearing fruit.
But we would not be who we are if we did not acknowledge the courage of those who decided to unite stateless nations, the peoples and regions of Europe in defence of our languages, culture, and way of life by becoming atransformative and unifying force for democracy and the rights of all peoples.
In 2026, that pioneering and creative spirit that defines us is more necessary than ever. Europe is at a pivotal moment, a moment of democratic reform.
We face many challenges, starting with artificial intelligence in the hands of a few who today wield more power than states themselves.
When algorithms are used to manipulate and dehumanise, to erode our democracies, and even to interfere in our electoral processes, it is essential to actand, once again, assert the sovereignty of our peoples and of Europe as a whole to decide our own destiny.
EFA has proved through its actions that it can be the antidote to totalitarianism, as well as to disinformation and hate speech. Wales and Scotland have just shown us this. Grassroots politics, sincere, accessible, active, and consistent, yields results. Diversity and pluralism, along with the active involvement of all citizens in shaping their own future, are what have distinguished us and will continue to distinguish us moving forward.
And for that, what better tool than open-minded politics, forging new alliances, and optimising performance under changing conditions to step out of our comfort zone. That is the path EFA will travel towards a strong, open, and democratic Europe.
